Drink Review: Green Shimmering Margarita

Rating

Pretty, Ancho Flavored Water

Sights: Rickey loves the opaque, luminous tinge which is definitely not found in nature. It’s a mystery why humans (and mice) at theme parks love to consume items that don’t look like food, but so it is.

Smells: Oh boy, does Disney love the Ancho Reyes these days. It’s a chili liqueur with quite a bit of spice and it seems to be EVERYWHERE. It also tends to dominate the drinks that feature it. Unsurprisingly, in this case the Ancho is heavy on the nose (along with a hint of pineapple).

Tastes: Again, the spice dominates here, but not really in a rich and interesting way. In fact, depending on where you get this, the drink ranges from watery-ish to full on Ancho Reyes flavored water. In other words, it’s flat and one note with very little tequila flavor. Rickey also thinks it could use more citrus to balance it out, even in its best iteration.

Feels: It has a medium to light body and it feels very (you guessed it) watery.

Rick’s Tricks: A major problem with this drink is that it is inconsistent. Rickey has had this at Thirsty River Bar, Nomad Lounge and Dawa Bar. At Dawa, it did not come with pineapple, but with a sad, anemic lime instead. It was also more watered down and less pretty color-wise at Dawa.

Additionally, Rickey has a vague memory of this being called the Firefly Margarita at one point? Just FYI, it’s the same thing.

Overall: Of the 50th Anniversary cocktails, this one is probably the winner. Most of the others are just sugar bombs, so this gets points for trying something different. The main reason is doesn’t get a higher rating is the inconsistency piece. And even though Rickey doesn’t hate the Green Shimmering Margarita, it’s still not a showstopper, even in its best form.
