Drink Review: Tibetan Mule

Rating

No Burning Holes To Speak Of!

Sights: Full disclosure, Rickey got this to-go from the tiny (but oh-so-handy) walk-up bar at Yak & Yeti. Normally it doesn’t come in a plastic cup, but for obvious reasons that’s how it’s featured here. For being a takeaway drink, Yak & Yeti went above and beyond by putting a pineapple wedge and leaf into this cocktail. Kudos to them for not phoning in the garnish!

Smells: Really just a slight hint of pineapple from the garnish.

Tastes: Generally, very few people like the sensation of a burning orifice (is Rickey right?). Yet, often with a vodka drink the palate is left with an unpleasant, pure-alcohol related tingling, and not much else. The Tibetan Mule diverges from most vodka-based drinks on this point. It evolves from a light sweetness from the yuzu puree, to spicy ginger, to sweet pineapple…and that’s it! No burning holes to speak of.

Feels: Light bodied, but with a slight thickness due to the puree. Refreshing overall.

Rick’s Tricks: Belly up to the bar at Yak & Yeti where there is generally no line and the cocktails are lower priced than anywhere else at Animal Kingdom.

Also make sure and stir it well as much of the yuzu settles to the bottom.

Overall: The Tibetan Mule isn’t super complex, but the addition of the pineapple and yuzu take it up a notch further than your average mule. So not only does it satisfy, but it also comes at a low price point. Nice work, Yak & Yeti!
