A Better Espresso Martini Than Most
Sights: We spy a hidden Rickey made out of coffee beans! FYI a Hidden Rickey is a bit lopsided and droopy- like a hidden Mickey that’s seen some things.
Anyway, it’s no masterful feat of creativity to put some coffee beans on the top of an espresso martini. But what makes this drink stand out visually is the dark brown body topped with a thick creamy head. This is an indication that the bartender shook the drink well, which is what you want to see with a cocktail like this.
Smells: So many espresso martinis smell like burnt diner coffee, which evokes flashbacks of late nights and bad decisions for Rickey. But the coffee in this drink actually smells like a decent pour-over.
Tastes: The unique aspect of the Wake Up Call is that it has espresso infused Pisco as opposed to the standard “flavored vodka, coffee and liqueur” formula. Pisco tends to overpower drinks with herbal or earthy notes, but in this case it’s not terribly noticeable. So while this cocktail is highly drinkable, it’s also a bit simplistic. That’s not necessarily bad, but it could be a little more interesting if the Pisco came through more.
Feels: This has a medium-light mouthfeel which is nice given that coffee is a heavier flavor

Rick’s Tricks: Rickey is convinced that Wine Bar George is an overlooked spot in terms of cocktails. They actually have a relatively thoughtful and well-developed program. The fact that they create their own espresso infused Pisco is evidence of this. Heck, the only thing Rickey has the patience to infuse with anything is his liver.
Overall: The wake up call would get a higher rating if the Pisco really shined, making it a more complex cocktail. That said, it’s the best espresso martini Rickey has had on property at Disney World.
