Drink Review: Malawi Mango Margarita

Rating

Who Doesn’t Love A Good Toothache?

Sights: They make this cocktail fresh in an actual blender as you watch on in shock and awe. A non-pre-made blended drink at Disney?! I’ll be damned.

And if you get the right bartender they will pile that shite up to the BRINK. Then your mission is to slurp that sucker down before it melts into an avalanche of sticky, boozy chaos.

Smells: Mango and a touch of tequila

Tastes: Ok, so if not prepared, this frozen concoction will give you an immediate toothache due to sugar overload. That said, it’s still pretty dang delicious. In other words, go for it if you’re looking for something more desserty. Also why waste calories on something sweet if it’s not gonna get you a bit buzzed?

So, as previously established, sweetness is prominent. But it’s not the whole story. The tequila is detectable, though it’s offset by the tart lime and the sweet/spicy notes from the Van der Hum. The mango tastes fresher than expected, and is, naturally, the most prominent flavor.

Feels: Nice and smooth without being soupy. Expert blending.

Rick’s Tricks: Because they hand blend this cocktail, you can probably ask for substitutions (or more or less of any ingredient). In fact, from Rickey’s experience the bartenders at Sanaa Lounge are very open to tailoring drinks to the customers’ preferences. That said, the Sauza tequila is 100% agave and it’s unlikely that you’ll need anything more complex since the drink is really just a sugar bomb.

Overall: Rickey tends to steer clear of overly sweet cocktails, but this one seems to work well. It’s really basic in that you get sweet and tart notes with a barely perceptible spice. But if you like mango and you have a sweet tooth, this one might be for you.
