Drink Review: Modern Fashioned

Rating

This One’s A Winner, Folks!

Sights: The glass is solid. The garnish is a simple Luxardo Cherry and a lemon peel. But best of all (and this makes Rickey’s little rodent heart soar), the ice is perfection! Not only is it nice and clear, it’s also stamped with the Topolino’s Terrace logo (or sometimes a Mickey). Oh happy day.

Smells: Cherry and vanilla with a hint of citrus from the lemon. Some on Team Rickey thought it was reminiscent of a rum and Vanilla Coke. Regardless, it smelled scrumptious.

Tastes: This is an Old Fashioned riff that WORKS, y’all. Rickey was positively floored by the expert crafting of this cocktail (and not just because he had one too many). The rum and whiskey blend together perfectly. The palate features vanilla notes at the outset, then evolves to highlight the slight sweetness of the rum. It finishes with spice from the rye and bitters. It’s neck and neck with the Corn Old Fashioned at La Cava del Tequila for best cocktail on property.

Feels: It’s medium bodied with a slight, syrupy mouthfeel.

Rick’s Tricks: You do not need a reservation to eat at the restaurant in order to grab this fantastic cocktail. There are often seats at the bar available.

Overall: It’s not hard to impress Rickey with a standard, sweet frozen Disney concoction. Is it pretty and drinkable? Rickey’s IN. But it’s rare for a real cocktail at Disney to make Rickey feel so over-the-moon. Nice work, Topolino’s Terrace. You’ve placed yourself firmly in the top 5 places to get a good, original cocktail at Walt Disney World.
