It’s Tempting, But a Tigress Deserves Better
Sights: Rickey loves the hefty glassware at Nomad Lounge. (i.e. He feels like he could huck it at his enemy and do some damage). Otherwise, this just looks like an Old Fashioned with Nomad Lounge’s infamous bad ice. Also, Rickey is a bit confused about the lemon peel garnish since the drink contains lime…
Smells: If you like bourbon, then you’ll be good to take a big whiff. Otherwise, there’s not much there (which is sad, because allspice dram smells delicious).
Tastes: This drink is not an Old Fashioned, but it’s certainly a riff on the classic. Rickey thinks it’s relatively well balanced, but could use just a touch more of the allspice dram to give it some dimension. That said, the tamarind syrup is detectable and pairs well with the lime, which differentiates this nicely from a standard Old Fashioned.
Feels: Ok, Nomad Lounge. Why, oh, WHY don’t you use larger ice cubes in your stirred cocktails? The major reason why this cocktail fails to impress is that it gets watered down too quickly.
Rick’s Tricks: Ask for big ice. One magical day, they might just have it.
Overall: Honestly, Rickey is torn between 3.5 and 4 ChEARS here. This is one of the better cocktails at Animal Kingdom for those who like a booze forward, bourbon, three ingredient style cocktail. However, they could tweak the ingredients to make it slightly more interesting. And Rickey’s perennial complaint still stands: This cocktail deserves better ice!
